“Life in Color” is arguably one of the most popular slogan of the 21st century.
Cellphone companies used it to advertise the shift from the archetypical black-box look to the array of colorways of their recent lineups.
Media companies used it to glorify their technological advancements with screens capable of displaying such a wide range of colors the human eye is having a hard time keeping up.
Others have even used it to celebrate cultural progress and inclusivity.
Color is the future, color is looking ahead, color is trend. It comes and goes then comes around again.
Grayscale on the other hand, doesn’t age. It’s timeless.
Just like the black tie, you can’t go wrong with it. It’s classic and understated, and no flamboyant colorway (no matter how loud or trendy) has been able to replace it.
It’s fascinating to see how Citizen Kane and Casablanca (black & white films from the 1940s) remain beautiful and relevant while movies that came out 5 years ago with millions of dollars spent on color grading and special effects already look outdated.
“Life in Black & White” is a proposition to take things a little backwards. Back to the essentials and striving to do more with less.
It's a celebration of the oldest, most excepted, but most powerful colorway of all, here is to Black & White.
